At first I thought the biggest problem with putting financial markets onchain was scalability. After going through Dusk’s architecture, I’m starting to think the harder problem is deciding what should actually be visible.

A public ledger is great when transparency is the goal, but financial markets often need the opposite for sensitive positions and transactions. What caught my attention is that Dusk doesn’t seem to treat privacy as simply “hide everything.” Its design combines transparent and privacy-preserving transaction models, with the idea that necessary information can still be available for compliance and oversight.

That feels closer to how real financial systems already work: not absolute secrecy, not absolute transparency, but controlled visibility.

The interesting question for me is whether programmable privacy becomes less of a niche feature and more of a basic requirement once more financial assets move onchain.
