At Least 20 Dead After Magnitude 7.7 Earthquake Strikes Off Eastern Indonesia

According to CNBC, at least 20 people died after a magnitude 7.7 earthquake and dozens of aftershocks struck off eastern Indonesia on Saturday, with tsunami waves of less than 1 meter recorded in several areas before the warning was lifted about three hours later. Rescuers in the port town of Maumere found 20 dead, six injured and two people trapped under rubble, while authorities said about 2,000 residents evacuated in Nagekeo and damage was reported to houses, warehouses and government facilities. East Nusa Tenggara Governor Emanuel Melkiades Laka Lena said at least five people died from collapsing rubble as they slept, while the national disaster mitigation agency said it was still gathering data. Indonesian geophysics agency BMKG said the first quake hit at 4:58 a.m. at a depth of 15 km, followed by several aftershocks.

The impugned order was set aside, and I was reinstated. After years of hardship, I rejoined my duty with hope.
But the truth is, I am working far away from home because of money. To fulfill daily needs, to support my poor Pashtun family, and to be a responsible person, I had no choice but to stay in these hard areas of Pakistan.
Today, the most painful part is that my organization is not allowing me to go on leave. Movement here is only in convoy, so I cannot even reach my family in this critical time.
I am a father, yet I cannot be beside my own son when he needs me the most. This helplessness is unbearable.
I humbly request everyone: please remember my son in your special duas. Ya Allah, grant my child complete shifa, ease his breathing, protect him from every harm, and bless him with a long, healthy life.
