After spending several days analyzing the trajectory of the global financial system, it is clear that 2026 is shaping up to be particularly difficult. Signals from the bond markets, particularly those from U.S. Treasuries, are concerning. The volatility of bonds is already starting to manifest, and the MOVE index, which measures this volatility, is slowly but surely climbing — a phenomenon that never appears without reason.
Three major points of tension are emerging:
Mastercard and BVNK bring fiat and stablecoins together in one platform Mastercard and BVNK have launched the Global Money Platform, infrastructure that banks, fintechs and businesses can integrate into their own services through a single API. It combines accounts in fiat currencies and stablecoins, crypto assets designed to track a currency such as the dollar, as well as conversion, stablecoin-linked cards and payouts to local bank accounts. Customers will be able to spend stablecoin balances across Mastercard’s network of hundreds of millions of acceptance locations. The platform is available through BVNK; the integration brings digital balances closer to everyday payments, without meaning that all merchants are paid directly in stablecoins.

Ripple and Privy bring embedded wallets to the XRP Ledger Privy has announced a partnership with Ripple to bring its digital wallet infrastructure to the XRP Ledger, the blockchain ledger that supports assets including XRP and RLUSD. 250 million USDC minted on Solana A Solana transaction minted 250 million USDC, a cryptocurrency designed to track the U.S. dollar, and sent the tokens to the USDC Treasury account. This creation increases the supply of USDC on the network, but the transaction alone does not show whether the tokens were later distributed or what they will be used for. It is therefore not enough to conclude that demand has increased or that the mint signals a market move.

Bitcoin: Coinbase urges early preparation for a post-quantum transition Coinbase, which says it holds about 5% of existing bitcoin in custody, has published ideas for preparing Bitcoin for signatures resistant to future quantum computers. The company says this migration could take several years and describes its post as input to an open discussion, not a final position. It points to P2MR (BIP-360) and P2TRv2, output formats designed to make signature mechanisms easier to evolve, as well as a staged transition combining classical and post-quantum signatures. The post treats dormant or inaccessible funds as a separate governance question so that discussion does not delay technical work. This is preparation for a future threat, not an announcement of an operational quantum vulnerability today.

Starknet launches Shadow Accounts These accounts create a separate address for each decentralized finance (DeFi) app that is not publicly linked to a user’s main wallet. The address’s balances and transactions remain visible on the blockchain: the feature hides the link between addresses, not the activity itself. An initial integration is scheduled for October 14.

Solana: Alpenglow planned for mainnet on October 21 Solana plans to activate Alpenglow on its mainnet on October 21. The upgrade will replace TowerBFT with Votor, a new mechanism that lets validators agree on blocks; its stated target is to reduce final confirmation time from about 12.8 seconds to 150 milliseconds. With Votor, validators will exchange votes directly instead of recording them as on-chain transactions, which could lower transaction counts that include those votes. Alpenglow has already been activated on the testnet and devnet test networks on September 24 and 25.

SEC: One commissioner may now be enough in certain matters The SEC has changed its quorum rule, which sets the minimum number of members required to act. Since October 2, if all other sitting commissioners are recused or otherwise unable to participate in a matter, the sole available commissioner can constitute a quorum for that matter. The rule applies to SEC decisions generally, including those involving crypto; it does not mean one commissioner can decide any rule alone. The SEC says the change is intended to let it continue handling matters when recusals reduce the number of available members.

New development: spot ETFs return to net inflows A spot ETF is a listed fund that directly holds the asset it tracks. On October 13, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $109.8 million in net inflows, while Ether funds brought in $24.8 million. The previous day, they had recorded net outflows of $65.4 million and $85.4 million, respectively. This one-session reversal marks a change in daily flows, but is not enough to establish a lasting trend.

Bitcoin moves back toward $84,000 ahead of inflation data BTC is trading around $83,800, up about 0.5% over 24 hours, after reaching $84,168 during the period. John Williams, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, said another rate increase could be warranted in 2026, but he currently sees no need for a further increase in 2027. His view on rates provides macroeconomic context, but does not by itself establish the cause of Bitcoin’s rebound; upcoming inflation figures remain a market focus.

UK: Trader says knife-point robbery cost him nearly $800,000 A crypto trader says masked intruders threatened him with a knife and took nearly $800,000 in cryptocurrency. Several outlets have reported his account posted on X, but authorities have not publicly confirmed the amount or details. This kind of assault, sometimes called a “wrench attack,” uses violence or threats to force someone to transfer cryptocurrency. Chainalysis estimates that successful physical attacks on crypto holders caused more than $30 million in losses worldwide in the first half of 2026.
