Sector overview: Money is flowing toward places with “small narratives, solid stories”
This week’s four quadrants:
🟢 Strengthening against the trend (small caps, solid narratives)
Quantum resistance +4.5% (weekly), privacy/$ZKC +4.1%, privacy coins +3.0%
RWA: +344% year to date in 2026; 3-month momentum has turned positive, making it the strongest narrative of the year
On-chain perpetual DEXs: 3-month momentum +51.6%; HYPE edged up against the trend (buybacks expanded to $100 million)
Individual tokens: $ZEC +3.84% in a day (OI +8.17%, funding rate 0.0063% — healthy); ENA +8.36% (OI +16.85%, but OI down 2.04% in the past hour, suggesting momentum-chasing capital is starting to exit); $XMR +6.6% for the week
🔴 Clearly weakening
AI sector: -2.4% over the past week, -50% for the year. The trigger was Musk’s warning that “credit has been cut off for around 200 pure-play AI cloud providers,” along with AI tech stocks being repriced lower. GRASS -2.7%, NEAR -1.4%. This is currently the biggest source of spillover risk for crypto.
L2 -7.6%; DeFi yield farming -10%
Gaming/Metaverse: structural decline, -5.1%
Memecoins: -32% (year to date), as purely sentiment-driven assets fall out of favor
Major L1s: SOL down 4.76% for the week (the Alpenglow upgrade launched on 10/21, cutting finality from 12.8 seconds to 150 milliseconds, but the price didn’t react at all = the good news was already priced in or overshadowed by macro pressures)
🟡 Neutral but important
Stablecoins: USDT at $182.3 billion, USDC at $71.5 billion; market caps are largely flat. Note: stablecoin stagnation suggests capital is “leaving the market and waiting on the sidelines,” rather than “rotating within the market”—key evidence for the view that “altseason isn’t coming.”
BTC dominance is 57%–60%; total market cap is $2.25–$2.68 trillion, down about 47% from the October 2025 ATH. High dominance + low total market cap = a classic “altcoin-suppressing” market.
Sector strategy in one sentence: Keep core positions in BTC; use satellite positions only for “cash-flow-generating DeFi (HYPE/UNI), RWA with real demand, and small-cap narratives like privacy/quantum resistance.” Avoid AI tokens and memes for now.
