The UK government announced on October 25 that it plans to add £432 million to a program aimed at ending street homelessness, nearly doubling its funding. According to Sina Finance, the money will fund temporary accommodation and related support to help people leave the streets during winter. Prime Minister Andy Burnham and Chancellor of the Exchequer John Healey said funding would continue through the current Parliament’s scheduled term, which ends in 2029. Burnham is due to meet local government leaders, businesses and charities on October 26 to discuss expanding accommodation and coordinating support services. Healey is due to present his first budget since taking office on October 28; the additional funding is among the new government’s social welfare spending measures announced ahead of the budget.
