Second on the gainers list $GTC I combed through Binance’s announcements—nothing.
The only thing I can verify is the market data: spot is around 0.279 now, up about 30% over 24 hours, with a high of 0.2897 and a low of around 0.214; trading volume is about $12.5 million. From 9 a.m. to noon Beijing time this morning, the hourly candles kept climbing.
The other side looks even more strained: the USDT-margined mark price is around 0.272, just over 2% below the index. At the noon settlement (12:00), the funding rate plunged straight to −1.3403%. Looking further back, before 4 p.m. on 10/17, the funding rate for this coin was still hovering around −0.05%. Only from that point did it suddenly jump into the “1%” range, and it’s stayed there for several settlements without returning to normal.
So I read this as a move fueled by shorts, not a new narrative. With no follow-up announcement, I wouldn’t chase it on the long side. If the hourly candle closes back below 0.26 (the morning’s breakout zone), I’d treat it as a short—the move should reverse once the fuel runs out.
The next settlement is at 16:00 Beijing time. I’ll be watching to see whether the funding rate comes down from these extreme levels.
