Solana just lit up Shanghai—and then its in-person event was suddenly postponed? That plot twist was a bit unexpected
On the evening of October 14, the Solana logo lit up the LED façade of the Citibank Tower in Shanghai’s Lujiazui district, and the official account posted, “Hello Shanghai.” Then, the Solana Foundation’s Accelerate China event, originally scheduled for October 16 at the Shangri-La Hotel in Shanghai, was suddenly postponed that same day.
Some attendees said law enforcement officers were on site and people were kept outside for more than an hour. A notice sent by the event organizers to registrants said the postponement was due to venue logistics, but no specific reason has been announced.
The close timing of the two events inevitably invites speculation, but for now, there’s no way to confirm that they’re directly related.
All we can say is that bringing Web3 into the real world involves far more than technology and community. Whether events can go ahead smoothly—and where the boundaries lie—are questions the industry should give serious thought to.
What do you think of Solana’s visit to Shanghai: an unexpected hiccup, or a wake-up call for the whole industry?
