A new poll found that concern about artificial intelligence cuts across party lines, with most Americans saying the U.S. government should prioritize keeping AI under human control and protecting workers. According to Sina Finance, 64% of respondents said AI is advancing too fast, while 27% said the pace is about right and 8% said it is too slow.
The poll also found that about 80% of U.S. adults think it is extremely or very important for the government to keep AI under human control, and the same share wants worker protection to be a priority. Most adults also said minimizing environmental damage and promoting U.S. economic growth are very important.
Public approval of U.S. President Donald Trump's handling of the issue was weak, with 67% of U.S. adults holding a negative view of his performance on AI. Stephanie Stewart, a middle school science teacher from Sunset, Utah, said she was frustrated by the president's opposition to AI regulation.
Ron Theusch, a truck driver in rural Alden, Minnesota, said his biggest concern is job losses, including his own. The poll found that most Democrats and Republicans agree on the importance of protecting workers and keeping AI under human control, while opinions diverge more sharply on other priorities in AI.
