$SUI this time I almost lost over $8,000. Now that I think about it, I’m still getting chills down my spine. Here’s what happened: not long ago, SUI pulled back from its peak. I watched the 24h low dip to $0.99 and thought, “This is a bargain-buy opportunity.” In the heat of the moment, I placed a heavily weighted buy order around $1.03. But after I bought, it didn’t rise—it fell. The 24h change was only -0.36%, but intraday it kept spiking down with needles, dipping back toward $0.99 again and again. My unrealized loss ballooned at one point to nearly $9,000. The most deadly part was that I didn’t set a stop-loss at all. I told myself, “SUI is a mainstream coin, a large-cap—so it won’t go down much.” That assumption—just like that—almost buried me. Later, the price barely bounced back to around $1.02, and that’s when I finally cut my losses and exited. I ended up losing a bit more than $3,000 in reality, but the $8,000+ I nearly lost—that’s the lesson I truly needed to remember. The mistakes I made were very specific: first, I treated “mainstream coin” as a talisman for “won’t drop hard.” SUI’s 24h trading volume is $820M, and liquidity is indeed good—but good liquidity doesn’t mean price won’t fall. It only means you can exit quickly; it doesn’t mean you’ll be willing to run. Second, seeing the 24h high of $1.08 and the low of $0.99, I subjectively decided that $1.02 was a “safe mid-point.” That’s classic anchoring psychology—the market simply doesn’t recognize my anchor. Third, my position size was too large. There was no scaling in and no stop-loss discipline. I was basically holding just on emotion. Here’s the warning: don’t use “large market cap” as a substitute for “risk management.” Even for mainstream coins like SUI, volatility can still seriously damage your account. Before opening any position, always ask yourself three questions: Where will my stop-loss be? How much loss on my position can I live with and still sleep at night? If I buy and it immediately moves against me, what will I do? If you can’t figure it out, don’t place the trade. See you in the comments.
