A new image model called luna-lisa-alpha has appeared on the LMArena testing platform, leading users to speculate that OpenAI may be testing a next-generation image generation model. According to ChainCatcher, the model has not been officially confirmed, and some testers think it could be an early version of GPT Image 2.5 or the next GPT Image release.
Test feedback suggests the model shows improvements in character consistency, image realism, text generation, and noise control. Some testers compared it with GPT Image 2.0, Nano Banana Pro, and Grok Imagine, saying luna-lisa-alpha better preserved the same character's appearance, clothing, and style across multiple generations. However, testers also said repeated textures still appeared in complex textured areas.
On the same day, OpenAI announced that the GPT Image 2 API preview now supports transparent background generation for use cases such as product images and web design. The exposure of multiple checkpoint names has also fueled speculation that OpenAI may be running A/B tests. It remains unclear whether the model will be officially released.
