Chery will establish a passenger car research and development center in the UK. According to Sina Finance, the Chery Group, which owns the Omoda and Jaecoo brands, said the move is part of its broader push to expand its business in the UK market.
The company said the center will begin operations in late autumn. According to Sina Finance, under a non-binding memorandum of understanding, Nissan plans to produce Chery Group models at its Sunderland plant starting next year.
Chery said the new center will be located in Bedfordshire and that its work will focus mainly on adapting vehicles to UK road conditions, with autonomous driving and artificial intelligence also to be covered later. The company added that it plans to hire local talent over the long term and create a large number of high-skilled jobs.
