Two people can be appointed to act as guarantors within one to two weeks.

The judge overseeing Sam Bankman-Fried's criminal case has decided that the names of two bail bond signatories can be disclosed, according to documents filed Jan. 30.
Former FTX CEO Bankman-Fried was briefly detained in the U.S. after being extradited from the Bahamas on Dec. 21. When he was released on bail on Dec. 22, his parents signed a $250 million bail bond backed by their California home.
However, the bail process also involved two other smaller bonds, for $500,000 and $200,000. Those bonds were co-signed by two people acting as sureties — at least one of whom was not a member of Bankman-Fried’s family.
Later, on January 3, Bankman-Fried and his legal team requested that the names of the guarantors be withheld for their safety and privacy.
Now, federal Judge Lewis Kaplan has decided that the names of the two sureties can be unsealed at the request of various news organizations. "In my opinion, individual bonds should be a matter of public record," Kaplan said in today's court filing.
Kaplan gave several reasons for his decision. First, he noted that the identity of the surety had no direct impact on Bankman-Fried's release. The bond was not signed until after bail was posted, and the magistrate who authorized Bankman-Fried's release did not know the name of the surety. Kaplan reasoned that public knowledge of the surety's name would not affect future legal proceedings or enforcement.
Kaplan also argued that publishing the names of sureties would not compromise the safety and privacy of individuals (other than drawing publicity). He further noted that bonds signed by sureties are traditionally published under the name of the person who signed them.
While the names of the two bail bond signatories may be released soon, that won’t happen until Feb. 7 or Feb. 14, depending on whether Bankman-Fried’s team appeals the decision. If the appeal is successful, the names will likely remain confidential.
Given the number of people involved in the FTX debacle, and the level of alleged conspiracy, finally releasing these names will undoubtedly draw attention.
