The fourth G20 meeting, held under the Indian term presidency, was held in Marrakech, Morocco.
At the meeting attended by G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors, a road map was determined on the global regulation and cooperation of crypto assets. The road map was created based on a document prepared by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Financial Stability Board (FSB).
G20 leaders agreed on a roadmap to regulate crypto assets and seize the opportunities offered by these assets. This roadmap specifically addresses the impacts of crypto assets on emerging markets and developing economies (EMDEs). The document outlines a comprehensive plan aimed at promoting global policies and regulations. Moreover; It focuses on some key areas such as policy frameworks, outreach beyond G20 jurisdictions, global coordination and cooperation, information sharing and addressing data gaps.
This determined road map is accepted by G20 leaders as a guide for crypto assets. In addition, leaders aim to implement this road map quickly and in a coordinated manner. In addition, support was expressed for the ongoing study of the standards set by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) for crypto assets.
G20 leaders acknowledge that crypto assets can provide benefits in terms of financial inclusion, innovation and efficiency. But they also recognize that these assets may pose risks to consumer and investor protection, market integrity, tax evasion, money laundering, terrorist financing and financial stability.
With this road map, G20 leaders have made significant progress towards ensuring global financial stability and effective regulation of crypto assets. It will also be able to follow how the road map is implemented by requesting updates from the IMF and FSB.
