According to Foresight News, The Block reported that Solana v 1.16 will introduce a "confidential transaction" feature that can improve user privacy by encrypting SPL token transactions. Solana infrastructure provider Helius Labs said that v1.16 has been running on the testnet since June, and the update of the validator client developed by Solana Labs has been approved by the majority of validating nodes. Version 1.16 of the Solana Rust client introduces a number of performance optimizations and stability improvements, and resolves implementation inconsistencies found in v1.14 and earlier. Version v1.16 also improves Solana's zero-knowledge support and introduces the ability to generate proofs more efficiently.

The upgrade also significantly reduces the validator’s RAM usage hardware requirements. The update introduces an improved peer sampling system for gossip pull requests, resolves bandwidth throttling issues that could slow down validators, and adds a new fix request feature. The resizable data accounts introduced by Solana allow for better allocation of resources, allowing developers to deploy smaller programs and scale them later as needed.
