Shortly after the cryptocurrency exchange FTX filed for bankruptcy reorganization in November last year, it suffered a hacker attack, resulting in the theft of $689 million worth of crypto assets, but the identity of the attacker has so far remained unknown.
However, coincidentally, just 10 months after the incident, when the criminal trial of FTX founder SBF began, the hacker address also recently began to transfer a large amount of Ethereum (ETH) assets.
On the 4th of this month, FTX hackers once again transferred 15,000 ETH (approximately US$24.75 million) and converted the ETH into BTC through the cross-chain liquidity protocol THORChain.
It even caused THORChain's transaction aggregator THORSwap to state earlier that in order to quickly curb any illegal activities (FTX hacker money laundering), the team decided to temporarily transform the protocol into "maintenance mode" until a more complete solution can be found.
According to the on-chain data tracking platform Lookonchain, so far FTX hackers have converted a total of 75,636 ETH (about 124 million U.S. dollars) into BTC and transferred it cross-chain to the Bitcoin network. Its address still holds 109,485 ETH, worth approximately $179 million.
In the past, attackers in the encryption field mostly kept stolen assets in the form of ETH. However, after ten months of silence, this hacker converted Ethereum worth more than 120 million US dollars into Bitcoin, plus BTC. We are facing two key positive factors:
Bitcoin will usher in a new round of halving in April 2024
Optimistic about multiple Bitcoin spot ETFs expected to receive SEC approval
One cannot help but wonder whether he is not optimistic about the future trend of Ethereum and chooses to be bullish on Bitcoin?
If we look at the "Ethereum/Bitcoin" trading pair, ETH has continued to fluctuate and decline since June. The current ratio has reached a new low since July 2022, and BTC is relatively strong. #BTC
