As malicious actors continue to attempt to steal users' crypto assets, wallet provider MetaMask has developed a way to provide users with more information about transactions and interactions within the app.
Francesco Andreoli, head of the developer community at ConsenSys, talked about ensuring that the recently released MetaMask Snaps are safe for users. The executive emphasized the importance of consent in ensuring users know and confirm every step of their journey across various chains and decentralized applications (DApps).
The security of MetaMask Snaps may be something users may be concerned about before trying out the new feature. However, Andreoli noted that user consent is one of his main priorities, and that Snaps are designed to provide full transparency into how each Snap interacts with the MetaMask wallet plugin.
He said the new update shows more data points to give users insight into their transactions: "With transaction insights, which is a big category of our permission list for security, you get more data points about what the plugin is doing today."
Andreoli demonstrated how a snap called Wallet Guard can protect users from malicious transactions. The administrator explained that before signing and confirming transactions, users will be shown various information on what to do. He said:
“Basically what happens is you will have different data points before you actually sign and confirm a transaction. If you are interacting with a malicious contract or have a specific interaction. This happens before you confirm the transaction.”
He emphasized that users will be “fully aware” of what is happening. According to Andreoli, this is a function they paid extra attention to when developing MetaMask Snaps.
