By the beginning of Q1 in 2024, the United Kingdom will have its second " #crypto #sandbox ." The emphasis will be squarely on digital assets and securities.

Head of capital markets at the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) Helen Boyd announced intentions to create a Digital Securities Sandbox by the end of Q1 2024 during her keynote at the CCData Digital Asset Summit on October 3. The FCA is a financial regulator that is technically autonomous, but in practise answers to the UK Treasury.

Boyd claims that the FCA's current Digital Sandbox, introduced in August 2023, will be different from the forthcoming Digital Securities Sandbox. The Financial Conduct Authority's Digital Sandbox is designed to help tech companies as they launch new products, while the Treasury's Digital Securities Sandbox will feature "a new rule set that would allow it to do new things with digital securities." According to the official statement, firms will be able to take advantage of the Digital Securities Sandbox by doing the following.

To establish digital asset-based financial market infrastructures, which, under a provisionally revised legal and regulatory framework, can engage in a variety of activities pertaining to digital securities.

The FCA's future role as the primary regulator for cryptocurrencies in the United Kingdom was also discussed by Boyd. She said the FCA is waiting for the Treasury to make a determination on how much authority it should be given.ย

The British government is proposing a complete ban on crypto investment cold calls, and the Financial Conduct Authority has issued a last warning to any British crypto enterprises that do not adhere to its marketing guidelines.
