After a year, the Uniswap Foundation released a funding proposal
On September 27, the Uniswap Foundation announced its latest funding plan and future plans.
Last year, Uniswap governance approved US$74 million in funding for the Uniswap Foundation. The Uniswap Foundation today released a proposal to apply for a second tranche of funds with a total commitment of US$74 million plus a 10% buffer, totaling US$62.37 million, planned to be in Voting will take place on-chain on October 4th.
This batch of funds will be used to support the construction of the Uniswap ecosystem, including developer support, research funding, etc. Additionally, the Foundation has announced a number of future plans, including further growing the Hooks ecosystem, launching a Fellowship in October 2023, continued support of IRL representative events, and establishing additional ways to connect digitally.
The foundation also plans to achieve larger goals in 2024 and beyond, such as expanding its ecosystem, innovating, and strengthening governance.
Uniswap Foundation has become the “DEX Development Planner”
On August 5, 2022, the Uniswap community released a new proposal proposing the establishment of the Uniswap Foundation (UF). According to the content of the proposal, UF’s mission is to support the decentralized and sustainable growth of the Uniswap protocol and the ecosystem and communities it supports. UF will award grants to builders, researchers, organizers, academics, analysts and more to grow the protocol and plan for its future. Devin Walsh, former chief of staff at Uniswap Labs, will serve as executive director and Ken Ng will serve as head of operations, forming a team of 12 people.
To achieve the above goals, the team is seeking a total of $74 million in funding, divided into two tranches, with the first tranche of $20 million, including: $14 million operating budget to cover the entire team's expenses for 3 years; $60 million Uniswap Grants Program (UGP) allocation budget to cover expenses for more than 3 years.

By using the new smart contract The Franchiser, these UNI Tokens will be revoked by the DAO at any time and cannot be used for any purpose other than governance.
The proposal, passed on August 24 last year, will request $74 million from the DAO treasury, of which $14 million will be used to support the foundation’s team and $60 million will be used for developer grants.
On September 20 this year, the Uniswap Foundation said that since it took over the Uniswap incentive program one year ago, it has issued 72 grants, 40 of which have been completed. Nine grants exceeded $100,000, for a total funding commitment of approximately $4.5 million.
The next day, September 21, the Uniswap Foundation announced the launch of the education platform "Uniswap University", a comprehensive education platform tailored for everyone, from beginners to experienced Uniswap v3 liquidity providers, which can provide participants with Provides a structured learning path to enable students to acquire and understand fluidity, including four modules: guide, Tidbits, simulation, and training.
It can be seen that the existence of the Uniswap Foundation has made the decentralized trading platform more stable, and it has also radiated more crypto ecological possibilities.
Will Uniswap also launch a Fellowship program?
According to yesterday’s Uniswap Foundation funding plan, one of the uses of this funding is to launch a Fellowship program in October 2023 and create a working group to directly apply cutting-edge research in MEV and other related fields to Uniswap.
The first DeFi-focused institute will be led by a committee of leading researchers in the Defi space. The institute will provide funding and mentorship to researchers studying MEV, mechanism design, ZK, and more, and will host a DeFi research conference in the spring. The first Fellowship program received 107 applications from around the world.

Both Consensys and zkSync have launched Fellowship programs. In addition to the Fellowship program, major L2 projects seem to be competing in terms of project legitimacy, code originality, and RaaS. The competition on the L2 track seems to be turning into a brutal "hand-to-hand battle."
Now, Uniswap, the leader of DEX, is also launching a Fellowship program. It is foreseeable that major projects will build their own moats in education, reserve strength, and wait for the arrival of the bull market.
