That green candlestick felt like a knife driven straight into my heart

At 3:17 a.m., my phone screen lit up.

It was a Binance notification: ERAUSDT was up more than 25% in 24 hours.

I stared at the number for a full ten seconds, then slowly set my phone down, rolled over, and faced the wall.

Three months ago, ERA was still trading at 0.003. Back then, I saw someone shilling it in a Telegram group, saying the project was building a decentralized AI computing network, the team had an impressive background, the roadmap was clear, and its valuation was severely undervalued. There were more than 300 people in the group, shouting “all in,” “100x coin,” and “miss it and wait ten years” every day.

I had 20,000 U at the time and had just made a profit on BTC. I was feeling invincible. I thought, it’s only 500 U—why not try this new coin? I wouldn’t care if I lost it.

So I bought 500 U worth of ERA at an average price of 0.005. After buying, I didn’t even set a take-profit or stop-loss, because I thought a coin like this had to go up at least tenfold.

And then?

ERA traded sideways between 0.003 and 0.01 for two whole months. Every day, I’d open the app, take a look, and silently tell myself, “Stay steady. Think long term.” The voices in the group went from “diamond hands” to “the project team is shaking out weak holders,” and then to “everyone, just hang in there a little longer.”

By the end of the second month, ERA had fallen to 0.0028. People in the group started cursing. Some said the team had abandoned the project. Others posted long analyses saying this was “the final panic sell-off.” I was down more than 1,000 U and felt completely numb, so I just deleted the app.

Until early this morning.

I opened Binance again and saw that ERA was trading at 0.0938.

My 500 U had turned into almost 100,000 U.

But I didn’t sell.

Because I had bought in again a week earlier. This time, it was 10,000 U at an average price of 0.072. I saw it bounce from its low and thought the pullback was over, so I decisively added to my position. I even opened a 3x leveraged long, thinking I’d finally make back everything I’d lost before.

Then, at 8 p.m. tonight, ERA suddenly plunged from 0.085 to 0.0728. My leveraged position was liquidated at 0.073.

10,000 U. Gone.

And now ERA has climbed back to 0.0938.

I sat on my bed, looking at that green candlestick rising from 0.0728, and suddenly laughed out loud. To everyone else, that candlestick meant wealth. To me, it was a knife, driven precisely into the price where I’d been liquidated.

The cruelest thing about crypto isn’t losing money. It’s seeing an opportunity right in front of you, then turning it into a disaster through greed and fear.

I turned off my phone. It was almost dawn outside.

I still had to go to work tomorrow.
