U.S. stocks were slammed at the close like this, yet BTC only moved $26 across two 4-hour candles — the weekend test is down to 80k

First, the strongest set of numbers: last night’s U.S. stock market close confirmed a sharp selloff, with the Nasdaq down 2.14% on the day and about -4.5% for the week, while WTI crude settled at $101.41, back above $100. But after the U.S. close, the two 4-hour candles for $BTC BTC closed at 81,590 and 81,616 respectively, just $26 apart, and the intraday low of 80,809 did not break lower. Let me pick a side first: is this real resilience, or is the follow-through drop just not here yet? I lean toward the former, but I only trust closing prices.

This morning at 08:52, dual-source verification: BTC 81,534, 24h -0.95%, 24h high 82,941 / low 80,809; $ETH 2,420, 24h -0.86%, high 2,494 / low 2,393. ETH broke below 2,400 overnight and then recovered, and like BTC, it’s stuck in the middle of a range, neither up nor down.

The data picture is not one-sided: funding rates are still neutral, with BTC around +0.0100% and ETH around +0.0081%; volume, if anything, is fading — the 04:00 4-hour candle saw spot trading volume of about $115 million, only a little over one-third of the roughly $318 million on the 00:00 candle. Selling pressure can’t push it down, and buyers aren’t stepping in either — that’s the weekend market backdrop.

Starting today, the Federal Reserve enters its blackout period; no one will be speaking before the meeting on the 27th–28th, and there are no U.S. stocks or major data releases over the weekend to set direction. The only things left that could move the market are oil prices and headlines from the Middle East — and unfortunately, weekend liquidity is at its thinnest, so one piece of news can punch through a chunk of the tape.

My invalidation level remains unchanged: if the 4-hour close falls below 80,000, the resilience thesis is invalidated and it should be treated as a delayed selloff; only a move back above 82,634 with a firm close can justify talking about recovery. In between, I’ll treat it as range grinding — not chasing longs, not chasing shorts.

The above is just my personal market note and does not guarantee returns. Weekend thin-market volatility is amplified, so size your position accordingly.
