$FIL spot—just took a look, around 1.02. Pretty much flat for today.

The real thing is on the calendar: in about 22 days, by October 15, the batch of long-term (six-year) unlocks for Protocol Labs and the Filecoin Foundation will stop. In the official figures, after that, the newly issued amount each year will drop from about 88 million down to around 22 million. That means new issuance is cut by roughly 75%—it’s not directly cutting the current circulating supply by three quarters.

My first reaction isn’t “it will definitely pump on that day.” The supply story has already been hyped through a full round; closer to the date is actually easier to stir up noise. What’s being cut is the speed of new issuance—whether it turns deflationary still depends on whether burning and locked collateral keep up.

What I’ll do: mark 10/15 on the calendar. I won’t chase this in the meantime; if you already have a position, manage it on your own rhythm. If you don’t, wait until the volume really picks up before looking again.
