Stablecoin payment network Atum completes $13.5 million funding round, with Variant leading the investment
On September 23, stablecoin payment network Atum announced that it has completed a $13.5 million funding round led by Variant, with participation from PayPal Ventures, Abstract Ventures, Road Capital, Mirana Ventures, First Commit, Credibly Neutral, and others. Atum was founded by Pete Cooling, former head of crypto products at Visa. It positions itself as a unified coordination layer for global capital flows. The platform does not issue a token itself, does not run a dedicated blockchain, and does not provide asset custody. It is not biased toward any specific payment rail; instead, it enables settlement service providers to compete with each other through a matched marketplace to fulfill payment requests. It allows senders to freely choose payment assets and enables recipients to receive settlement assets as needed. The platform also supports stablecoin micro-payments and cross-border settlement for both humans and AI agents.
