Today’s global bond market witnessed a landmark moment: Japan’s 10-year government bond yield surged to 3.025%, directly setting a new record high since September 1996. Meanwhile, the U.S. 10-year government bond yield also broke through 5.0210%, hitting a fresh peak since mid-2007.

Both major economies’ core risk-free yields have reached multi-decade highs at the same time, reflecting that the global high-interest-rate environment is deepening across the board. The market had originally expected the tightening cycle to be nearing its end, but strong economic resilience alongside shifting expectations for the Bank of Japan’s policy direction is forcing global capital to reprice risk-free yields.

The spike in government bond yields is often viewed as the “gravity” in asset pricing. When risk-free assets deliver such attractive returns, global stock valuations face compression. Elevated borrowing costs also put heavy pressure on macroeconomic liquidity, and the arbitrage logic between the U.S. dollar and major currencies is thrown into turmoil.

For the crypto market $BTC , tightening global liquidity means risk assets face tests of short-term deleveraging and capital rotation, but it also encourages some investors to reassess the long-term hedging value of non-sovereign assets. The next move still depends on how liquidity balances its tug-of-war between traditional high-yield assets and digital assets.
