The total number of active oil and gas rigs in the United States remained unchanged this week at 588 rigs, according to data released by Baker Hughes (NYSE:BKR) on Friday.
The number of rigs, which serves as an early indicator of future energy production, stayed the same during the week ending 28/08/2025. The total was 52 rigs higher, or 9.70%, compared with the same period last year.
Oil rigs decreased by five to reach 447, while gas rigs increased by five to reach 132. Other miscellaneous rigs remained unchanged at nine rigs.
