TechFlow reported that according to Cointelegraph, Ripple’s former CEO CTO Stefan Thomas owns an IronKey hard drive containing 7,002 BTC (currently worth about US$243 million), with only two chances to guess the password.

In an open letter on October 25, cryptocurrency recovery company Unciphered offered to unlock one of Thomas’ IronKey hard drives. Its team developed a method to crack the hardware and access BTC keys that had been securely stored for years, and the company was able to access data on similar IronKeys after “200 trillion attempts,” which could potentially bypass the drive’s 10-attempt limit.
