CEO Elon Musk has officially launched Tesla's new self -driving car, including Robotaxi and Robovan, attracting more than three million online followers in the company's "We, Robot" event.

"One of the goals we set, what we have seen through the Cybertruck model, is that we want to change the appearance of the roads," Musk said the fifth night at the event at Warner Brother Studios, Los Angeles. "

Musk stressed that Tesla is aiming for an exciting and innovative future of transportation, in stark contrast to the dark and bleak visions often seen in science fiction films like Blade Runner.

“I love Blade Runner, but I don't think we want that kind of future,” he said. “We might want the character's trench coat, but not a bleak post-apocalyptic world.”

The event, which started late due to an emergency at the venue, featured 50 fully autonomous Tesla cars, equipped with no steering wheel or gas and brake pedals.

The demonstration was meant to highlight Tesla’s progress in the field of self-driving technology. For those who want to own a driverless taxi, Musk revealed that the starting price of these cars will be under $30,000, about 750 million VND.

Tesla plans to deploy fully self-driving cars in California and Texas in 2025 with the Model 3 and Model Y models, while the driverless taxi will officially go into production from 2026.

A surprise highlight of the event was the unveiling of the new Robovan, capable of carrying up to 20 passengers or cargo.

Tesla's self-driving technology is powered by artificial intelligence (AI) and image recognition systems, developed based on data from millions of Tesla cars. According to Musk, this makes Tesla cars 10 to 30 times safer than regular human drivers.

“I want to emphasize that our solution is based on AI and image recognition, so there is no need for expensive equipment,” Musk explained. “This means that the Model 3, Model Y and Model S that we produce today are all capable of fully autonomous driving without supervision, which significantly reduces the cost of production.”

Musk also announced that the driverless taxi will not have a traditional charging port. Instead, Tesla is developing inductive charging technology to optimize performance and convenience for autonomous vehicles.

While the audience at the event applauded the innovation, many on Twitter were quick to point out the legal issues associated with a car without a steering wheel. The prospect of unemployed drivers and closed driving schools loomed.

The event was also broadcast live on the X platform, with Tesla's Optimus robots performing, mixing drinks and interacting with guests.

Musk said the Optimus robot is designed to be affordable and versatile, capable of performing a variety of tasks with an expected future cost of around $20,000 to $30,000.

“All the technology we’ve developed for our cars—from batteries, to power electronics, to advanced motors, to software and AI inference—can be applied to humanoid robots using the same techniques,” Musk said. “We’ve made huge strides with Optimus.”

Musk predicts that as robots like Optimus become commonplace, the cost of products and services will plummet, ushering in an era of unprecedented prosperity.

“Everyone will be able to afford the products and services they want,” the richest man on the planet asserted. “We will enter an era of prosperity beyond most people’s imagination.”

He also added that in the future, self-driving vehicles could help cities repurpose parking lots and garages into parks and green spaces.

“I think the future is going to be incredibly bright,” Musk concluded. “It’s going to be something really special.”
