[Zimbabwe Central Bank: Gold-backed digital tokens are now an approved payment method]

Zimbabwean residents and institutions can now use a recently launched gold-backed digital token to pay or settle domestic transactions, the central bank said. Central Bank Governor John Mangudya said the central bank has engaged the services of external auditors to verify the availability and adequacy of ZIG gold at any given time. Golden Finance previously reported that on August 13, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) stated that it would soon launch GBDT (gold-backed digital token) “for trading purposes” and is currently in the advanced stages of preparations.
