Dreamus, a leading entertainment company and event organizer in South Korea, is now entering the world of NFT tickets. In a strategic move, the SK Planet subsidiary has integrated NFT ticketing services into its app, OK Cashbag, which is known as its parent company's rewards loyalty program.
With this integration, fans can now purchase tickets to various events, such as K-pop concerts and others, in the form of Avalanche NFTs that can be found on the special Avalanche SK Planet subnet that was just launched earlier this year.
Currently, Avalanche-based NFT tickets are available for the Seoul Jazz Festival and the hit musical "Phantom of the Opera." Although NFT tickets for the K-pop Superpop Festival were initially offered, they had to be canceled due to an unexpected incident during the stage setup process, as announced on the event's official website, and the refund process is ongoing.
Dreamus NFT tickets will give buyers a QR code that will only be activated on the day of the event. However, it is important to note that these NFTs are unique compared to regular NFTs that are generally found on platforms like OpenSea. These Dreamus NFT tickets are designed to be accessible only to the original purchaser, with the aim of preventing unauthorized entry using other people's NFTs.
This initiative reflects previous trends in NFT projects that have been introduced by influencers and celebrities as a creative way to connect the worlds of ticketing and membership. For example, last year, Gary Vaynerchuck, a prominent social media entrepreneur, hosted the 'Veecon' event in Minneapolis. In the event, he gave exclusive access for three years to more than 10,000 holders of his NFT collection.
In the interview, Justin Kim, who serves as Head of Ava Labs Korea, highlighted the potential of NFT tickets to address issues that have long plagued the live event ticketing industry, such as bots and scalpers.
“This is bad business for artists and fans. They were really hurt emotionally in the whole process.”
Blockchain-based NFT tickets can be configured with features that allow artists to prevent resale or impose restrictions on resale prices, giving them greater control over their event tickets.
According to Gyosu Kim, Chief Business Officer of SK Planet, blockchain-based tickets also have the potential to be an effective anti-scalping tool. Kim said that the authentication process that occurs at event locations can improve the overall experience for visitors.
Additionally, Dreamus and SK Planet, a subsidiary of SK Telecom, South Korea's largest wireless operator, will introduce a secondary market for NFTs later this year. This marketplace will provide a variety of loyalty benefits and additional features. According to Justin Kim, there is increasing awareness among Korean business enterprises about the potential of blockchain solutions, and adoption is increasingly occurring at the retail and business levels.
