Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase has made two attempts to acquire FTX Europe in a bid to expand its derivatives business internationally. However, Coinbase decided not to make the acquisition, Cointelegraph reported. Acquisition attempts occurred in November 2022 and September 2023 after FTX's parent company suffered a major downturn. Interest in FTX Europe is not limited to Coinbase; Crypto.com and Trek Labs are also among the companies considering acquisition. FTX Europe's sales period has been extended until September 24. FTX had invested approximately $400 million in its European branch. FTX Europe was carrying out derivative transactions with the regulatory license it received from Cyprus. Coinbase's acquisition of FTX Europe could significantly increase the company's fee revenue as crypto derivatives trading grows in popularity.
