T printed a massive wick at 8 a.m.—5.5 billion tokens changed hands in one hour.
Let me give you my conclusion first: I’m not chasing this spike. Chasing the top just means catching the falling knife.
Guys, Threshold’s T caught me completely off guard this morning.
It usually trades only a few million to 20 million tokens an hour, but that one hour at 8 a.m. saw a whopping 5.5 billion tokens traded.
The price shot from 0.0046 to 0.0076 in a single wick, up 64% intraday, then the low of the 9 a.m. candle plunged back to 0.0063.
Now it’s hovering around 0.0069, still up 47% over 24 hours, with $58.5 million in futures trading volume.
Put simply, this wasn’t a gradual climb—it was a massive burst of activity concentrated in that one hour at 8 a.m.
The usual hourly volume doesn’t even come close; it’s not a fraction of this candle’s volume.
Even crazier is the funding rate: -1% every 8 hours, meaning shorts pay longs 1% every 8 hours.
That adds up to 3% a day. Shorts are getting drained by funding before they even get the price drop they’re waiting for.
The bulls have a point, too.
This coin is already fully circulating, with no unlocks looming overhead—not like those coins that release more tokens every month.
Threshold is building tBTC, which brings Bitcoin onto Ethereum, and its DAO recently pursued cost-cutting and efficiency improvements, along with buybacks.
The price is still down more than 45% since the start of the year, and down 63% over the past year. At most, today’s spike is a small climb out of the hole.
But I still think this spike came way too fast.
Anyone who chased at 0.0075 at 8 a.m. was down 16% by 9 a.m. That’s not buying a coin—that’s catching a falling knife.
With funding this negative, it shows shorts are already being forced to pay up. Any further move higher depends entirely on fresh money coming in.
If that new money doesn’t show up and the pullback low of 0.0063 breaks, the price will have to head back to the 0.0046 launch point to find support.
I’m sitting this one out. I can’t bring myself to buy here.
I wouldn’t dare open a short either—shorting with funding at -1% is basically paying the longs a salary. That’s just volunteering to get wrecked.
Waiting for it to choose a direction is a lot more reliable than trying to guess.
Are you betting it’ll reclaim 0.0076 and keep running, meaning that wick wasn’t for nothing? Or, like me, do you think a break below 0.0063 will kill the move and send it back to 0.0046? I’m in the latter camp. What about you?
