🚨 Bitget CEO: “Bitget is absolutely not another FTX”
On September 24, Bitget suffered a security incident, and some hot wallets saw unauthorized transfers.
CEO Gracy Chen responded, saying:
🔹 The initial impact is about $351.6 million
🔹 Subsequent on-chain reconciliation has been updated to about $387.5 million
🔹 Bitget users’ protection fund exceeds $464 million
🔹 The total reserve ratio for September PoR reached 135%
🔹 User assets are held with reserves of at least 1:1
🔹 Cold wallets were not affected by this incident
🔹 Suspension of withdrawals is mainly to complete security investigations
Chen said that the losses from this incident are still within the coverage of the platform’s protection fund, and emphasized:
“This is absolutely not another FTX.”
But what may be worth paying attention to isn’t really that sentence.
After FTX, the market has become increasingly clear:
Exchange security ≠ only look at asset size.
You should look at the following instead:
① Whether users’ assets are independently verified
② Whether reserve proof remains continuously and publicly available
③ Whether the protection fund genuinely exists
④ How hot and cold wallets are isolated
⑤ After a security incident, whether the platform can quickly limit losses
⑥ Whether on-chain funds can be continuously tracked
Bitget has said the vulnerability has been fixed and is working with organizations such as Mandiant and SlowMist to carry out an investigation, while also launching an asset recovery plan.
The biggest lesson left by FTX may not be “don’t trust exchanges,” but rather:
👉 Don’t treat “trust” as a security mechanism.
Data, reserves, on-chain verification, and risk-control systems are the real things users should care about.
