Thailand wanted! 28 million USD power-stealing mining case leads to a cross-border money-laundering network

The Thailand DSI has recently issued an arrest warrant 🚨 for Chinese businessman Wang Yicheng, accusing him of laundering money for a scam syndicate through illegal crypto mining businesses. The electricity involved totals up to 950 million baht (about 28 million USD). A Reuters investigation also found that more than 9 million USD had been received into wallets under his name, and TRM Labs flagged them as being linked to “pig butchering” scams. Even more bizarrely, he may already have fled, and Interpol is helping to find him 😅

But don’t panic—this isn’t Thailand’s first crackdown on illegal mining. Just a few days ago, authorities raided 315 mining rigs in five northeastern provinces. Thailand is now following a “dual-track” approach: while promoting the legitimate crypto market, it is also clamping down hard on gray areas.
