I build software for crypto traders: XTester Studio for strategy research and backtesting, and CopyTrader for traders who want to offer trade copying to their own audience.

Here I'll share what I'm working on, the experiments behind it and the product decisions along the way. That includes how to test a strategy idea, what a backtest can tell you, and the practical work of building a copy-trading service.

The $5 minimum order silently rewrites your strategy.

A master trading 1.7 % of his capital per fill turns into a $9 order at our size. Round it up to $5–6 and you have just doubled his risk. Round up without limit and a $500 account copies +10.8 % where a strict skip rule copies +22.7 %. Our rule: round up at most ×2, otherwise skip.

We skip 9 of every 13 master fills. On purpose.

13,295 fills seen, 4,190 executed. The rest: positions opened before we subscribed (never join mid-position), orders below half the minimum, per-pair and account caps, blocked pairs. Skipping is the strategy. Masters trade inside old positions only 10 % of the time, so the cost of the rule is small.

Our masters never flip on a crash.

Five days with BTC down ≥ 2 % in 60 days: median change of the pool's net exposure the next day = 0 %. Only 11 % cut longs by more than 30 %, 1.8 % flipped short. No stop-losses as a class. If you copy swing traders, the protection has to be your rule, not theirs.

The market did not eat our profit. Friction did.

Over 14 days: fees $106, slippage versus the master's price ≈ $424. Slippage was 4× the fees. Every second between the master's fill and ours costs, but our tests show the cost of one second is near zero within 2–5 seconds — the loss comes from the minimum order rounding and from thin pairs.
