The proposal would reward customers for scanning, bagging and paying for their own purchases instead of relying on store employees.
The bill, A11501, argues that customers should benefit financially when they take on tasks traditionally performed by paid workers. 💰
However, the proposal has not become law yet. It was introduced on May 28, 2026, and is currently awaiting consideration by a New York Assembly committee. ⚖
