Blockchain music startup Sound.xyz has confirmed the launch of a new NFT platform for artists and has secured $20 million in Series A funding led by Andreessen Horowitz.
Founded in 2021, Sound allows musicians to upload their songs to a blockchain platform and sell them for whatever price they want. In the past 12 months, Sound has paid a total of $5.5 million to 500 artists during closed-door testing and has collectively released about 1,600 music NFTs.
Starting today, any artist can upload their music to Sound and retain 100% ownership. Sound allows artists to mint NFTs on the Ethereum mainnet, as well as the second-layer network Optimism.
