Lately, you may have been seeing the term TradFi everywhere. It just means traditional finance—the whole world of banks, brokerages, and insurance. What’s changing now is that trading data is steadily eroding the boundary between it and crypto.
According to CoinGecko, from January 2025 to May 2026, crypto platforms listed around 360 traditional financial assets. Trading volumes make the trend even clearer: in just the first five months of 2026, perpetual contracts for these assets saw $1.32 trillion in trading volume, compared with $104.2 billion for all of 2025—more than a tenfold jump. Bitget executives have said that stocks already account for 28% of the company’s total trading volume.
One thing needs to be clear: these perpetual stock contracts don’t mean you’re actually buying shares. You get no equity, no voting rights, and none of the shareholder protections offered by traditional brokerages. You’re only trading a contract linked to a stock’s price. The upside is that you can trade on price movements anytime, 24/7. Put simply, they bring exposure to traditional asset prices onto crypto’s settlement rails.
Another trend is RWA (real-world assets). As of May 2026, the value of RWAs on-chain had reached $33.7 billion. Much of the growth came from tokenized U.S. Treasuries issued by institutions such as BlackRock and Franklin Templeton. Ondo’s tokenized U.S. Treasuries had also reached $2.71 billion. Unlike perpetual stock contracts, these bring interest-bearing assets like government bonds on-chain, allowing on-chain funds to earn interest from traditional fixed-income assets directly.
Binance calls this convergence TriFi. The core idea is simple: users don’t think in labels. Being able to handle fiat, stablecoins, on-chain investing, and traditional assets all on one platform is a real need.
If you’re new to this, treat it as a window to observe for now. Price discovery in traditional markets is being pulled into a 24/7 rhythm. What remains to be seen is how regulators classify these contracts, and whether the liquidity of tokenized U.S. Treasuries can meet actual redemption demand.
