Cryptocurrencies also have their place in stirring up controversy. Such was the case with a controversial post on Litecoin’s (#LTC ) X profile targeting Ripple (XRP), which said, “I’m told I can no longer use the word ‘retarded’ to refer to XRP,” according to Brenda Ngari at ZyCrypto.

The comment seemed to mock XRP while referring to restrictions on the offensive term, adding another moment of tension to the rivalry between the two crypto communities.
Reaction from XRP supporters
An XRP supporter quickly responded, questioning Litecoin’s position in the cryptocurrency market and accusing it of underperforming other established cryptocurrencies for years. The user argued that Litecoin had little room to mock XRP, while Zcash ($ZEC ) had far surpassed it.

The XRP supporter’s criticism also reflects a notable difference in the two assets’ recent market performance. #Zcash has risen approximately 138% in 2026, while Litecoin has fallen around 30% so far this year, according to comparative market data. It has also lagged behind XRP in annualized returns over the past five years, providing context for the supporter’s argument.
Another XRP supporter joined the discussion, questioning Litecoin’s relevance and criticizing its real-world adoption, asking: “Has anyone used Litecoin in the last 10 years?”
Litecoin has attacked XRP before
This latest attack is not the first time Litecoin has taken aim at XRP and its community. The rivalry intensified in August 2025, when Litecoin’s official X account posted a lengthy sarcastic message disguised as a “fun fact.” The message mocked #XRP ’s ambitions in the banking sector and ridiculed the idea that Ripple’s payment infrastructure could transform traditional finance.
The post also made a personal attack on Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse, satirically calling him “Brad Garlicmouse.” It also questioned the value of XRP’s banking-related use cases and drew criticism from members of the XRP community.
This latest exchange of accusations comes as both cryptocurrencies continue to trade well below their previous all-time highs. Litecoin is hovering around $55.57, approximately 86.5% below its 2021 high, while XRP is trading at $1.31 after losing nearly 64% of its value since reaching its all-time high of $3.65. Despite the sharp corrections, both assets remain in the spotlight as their communities debate their market performance and long-term relevance.
