The “one laptop” story turns out not to be the whole story behind the Binance hack — its investigation has now uncovered additional points of entry.
Fact: In an investigation update on Oct. 30, Binance said its follow-up investigation had “found additional points of compromise” beyond the DevOps laptop initially identified (Cointelegraph, Oct. 30; confirmed by BleepingComputer). The details have not been disclosed — they have yet to say which systems were affected — and evidence is still being gathered with law enforcement. The withdrawal target was narrowed to around 45 hours from that update, deposits continued as normal, and outflows have stopped since withdrawals were suspended. The total impact remains around $6.3 billion, with ~$3 billion frozen.
My take: The shift from a single explanation to a multi-point attack is the most important development. If there was more than one entry point, the next question is no longer “whose laptop,” but how deeply the attackers got into the internal systems — and that determines whether 45 hours is enough. The market isn’t relieved yet: BTC is around $77,700 and BNB around $703 this afternoon, continuing their post-hack decline.
What I’m watching: details on the additional points of compromise, the promised technical post-mortem and updated Proof of Reserves, and whether the 45-hour target is actually met.
Do you think this admission of “additional points” makes you more cautious, or is it a sign that the investigation is becoming more transparent?
This is my analysis, not financial advice — always DYOR.
