After CPI and PPI both rocked the market, Bitcoin is stuck at $82K, not budging

🔻 Quick look at the market

Bitcoin is currently around 82,200, and ETH is hovering around 2,445. After dipping to 79,770 last night, it bounced back. Today, it’s been grinding within the 80K–82.5K range. The 4-hour SAR is still above 83K, and volume hasn’t picked up. This is a classic “short-covering recovery after the bad news is priced in,” not a bullish counterattack.

🔻 How the two reports are being priced in

On 10/14, CPI came in at 3.7% year over year and core CPI at 2.6%, both above expectations. On 10/15, PPI rose 1.3% month over month and 6.3% year over year (wholesale gasoline prices surged 20.3% in a single month), marking the hottest producer-price inflation since 2022.

The market first pushed the “October rate hike odds” from 22% to 41%, then brought them back down to 15%–27%. The 10-year Treasury yield surged to 5.3%, then fell back to 5.08%. In plain English: the Fed won’t dare signal a dovish turn before 10/28, but another hike can’t be ruled out either—so crypto prices are stuck above $80K as traders wait and see.

🔻 How to position

I’m not turning bearish on the long-term outlook as long as $80K holds. But in the short term, this is a “making sense of the data” phase, not a “trend restarting” phase. If Bitcoin can’t reclaim 82,500 and ETH can’t hold 2,500, treat it as choppy, fakeout-prone trading. I’m not chasing green candles tonight; I’ll wait for the last data release before the 10/28 FOMC meeting to set the tone (retail sales and initial jobless claims have already come in soft). Small traders, don’t buy the “bad news is over, so we’re about to rally” narrative. In a leveraged tug-of-war, scaling out slowly beats gambling on direction.
