Nasdaq plans to introduce new rules under which listed companies with a market capitalization below $5 million for 30 consecutive days would face immediate trading suspension and delisting proceedings, aiming to crack down on manipulation. The proposal has drawn opposition from small U.S. businesses, which worry it could affect normal operations and fundraising. Last month, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) paused work on the proposal and decided to seek further public comment. More than 190 Nasdaq-listed companies currently have a market capitalization of $5 million or less.
