Tonight’s drop in AI stocks is more concerning than the CPI report itself!

U.S. AI stocks are experiencing a clear sell-off tonight. The weakest names aren’t Nvidia, but AI infrastructure companies and high-beta stocks that had surged previously!

The Nasdaq is down 1.3%; the semiconductor ETFs SMH and SOXX are down 3.3% and 4.3%, respectively.
NVDA is down 3.1%, AMD 4.9%, MU 3.2%, SNDK 4.6%, and MRVL 6.8%.
More concerning, NBIS is down over 10%, CRWV over 16%, and DELL is also down over 10%.

The market is reassessing the cost of financing AI investment—not just selling a few chip stocks!

Tonight’s CPI came in broadly above expectations, and the 10-year Treasury yield has climbed back toward 5.3%. Persistently high interest rates are especially unfavorable for companies that need ongoing financing to build and expand data centers.

CRWV is a case in point. Its stock has plunged, and yields on some of the company’s bonds have risen to around 15%. The market is starting to worry about just how high the financing costs for massive future investments in AI infrastructure could be.

Another detail worth noting: ASML reported earnings today and raised its full-year guidance, yet its shares still fell.

That doesn’t mean AI demand has suddenly disappeared, but it does show that investors aren’t willing to keep chasing prices based on positive fundamentals alone.
There’s still no clear evidence that the broader AI sector has found a short-term bottom, particularly among companies tied to memory, optical communications, and AI computing-power rentals.

Taiwan Semiconductor’s earnings report tomorrow is the next key thing to watch.

If results remain strong but semiconductor stocks still can’t rally, we should respect the market’s verdict.

Next, focus on whether NVDA can stabilize and whether money can flow back into MU, MRVL, and other AI hardware stocks.
The biggest risk right now isn’t missing a rebound—it’s mistaking a volatile sell-off for a bargain buying opportunity.
