Technical principles | Why is Ethereum’s gas fee split into a base fee and a tip?
The protocol automatically calculates the base fee based on the usage of the previous block. It goes up when usage exceeds the target and down when usage falls below it.
The base fee is burned instead of being paid to the block proposer, preventing them from stuffing blocks with fake transactions to drive up fees and profit.
Under EIP-1559, every Ethereum transaction pays a base fee of $ETH units, which is burned directly. Currently: 2535.
Don’t rush into placing an order just because everyone around you is doing it.
