GMT spot up 20% in 24 hours: 4-hour volume surges, OI rises 63%; watch for a break above 0.00962
Bottom line: Spot and perpetuals are moving in tandem during this GMT rally, but leverage in the futures market is also rising rapidly. In the short term, watch to see whether a 4-hour candle close confirms a breakout above the intraday high of 0.00962. If the price falls back below 0.00920 or loses the 0.00880 area, this rally looks more like a high-volatility rebound than a confirmed new trend.
At around 06:46 Beijing time on October 10, 2026, Binance's GMTUSDT spot price was about 0.00944, up 20.102% over 24 hours, with a 24-hour high of 0.00962 and low of 0.00779. Trading volume was about 4.119 million USDT. The latest GMTUSDT perpetual price was about 0.00943, up 19.929% over 24 hours, with trading volume of about 13.277 million USDT. The gains in both markets are similar, with no apparent divergence so far in which spot rises on its own while perpetuals trade at a clear discount.
Based on the closed 4-hour candlesticks, the candle for October 9, 16:00–20:00 (Beijing time; October 10, 00:00–04:00) closed at 0.00880, up from 0.00822, with a high of 0.00920 and trading volume of approximately 2.294 million USDT—clearly higher than that of the preceding 4-hour candles. The current 4-hour candle has not yet closed and has already touched 0.00962, so this breakout can only be considered an intraday attempt for now, not a confirmed breakout.
Changes in leverage are more noteworthy. In Binance’s publicly available historical OI data, nominal OI rose from approximately 2.297 million USDT to approximately 3.408 million USDT, an increase of about 48%. Compared with current OI of approximately 3.749 million USDT when converted at the current price, that is an increase of about 63% from the sample’s starting point. This suggests new perpetual positions entered during the rise, but an increase in OI does not distinguish between long and short positions and cannot, on its own, prove that the price will continue to rise.
Funding rates are not extreme. The most recent settled funding rate was approximately +0.004511% per 4 hours. The mark price was approximately 0.009431, while the index price was approximately 0.009461, with the mark price slightly below the index price. The current price is very close to the 0.00962 high. If chasing the price, be mindful of volatility at elevated levels and liquidation sweeps on both sides, rather than focusing only on the 24-hour gain.
For the short term, there are three scenarios to watch:
1. Bullish scenario: Only a 4-hour close above 0.00962, followed by a pullback that holds above 0.00920, would confirm the breakout on a closing basis. After that, watch whether volume can hold up, rather than relying on a single intraday spike.
2. Range-bound scenario: Repeated moves between 0.00880 and 0.00962 would suggest the market is absorbing the newly added leverage, making the risk-reward ratio for chasing the rally less favorable.
3. Failure scenario: A break below 0.00920 followed by a further loss of 0.00880, with OI not falling significantly, would indicate that long positions may be coming under pressure. If OI also falls rapidly, that would look more like a pullback following deleveraging.
The above is an analysis of market conditions based on publicly available Binance spot, perpetual, candlestick, OI, and funding-rate data. It is not a promise of returns or trading advice. Data may change with market conditions; portions of the 4-hour and daily candles that have not closed are not used to confirm a trend.
