In the past 24 hours, stocks, commodities, and indices combined saw $42.92 million in liquidations across 7,022 trades. The direction being harvested is completely opposite.

On the stock side, within the 27.55 million liquidations, 72% were shorts. The S&P 500 index 2.47 million was all short orders. For index-related positions overall 3.89 million, shorts make up 98%. As the market moves upward, going short gets hit even harder.

The oil market’s style is the opposite over there. Original crude oil 4.88 million got liquidated, and 90% was long. The largest single trade was 1.49 million; last night, a crude oil long position was liquidated directly. Gold 2.36 million, and 77% was also chasing longs.

SanDisk SNDK is still the king of liquidations—within 24 hours, $68.8 million got liquidated, and both longs and shorts are getting cut.

Holding both stock short positions and commodity long positions at the same time—these past couple of days have been a double-kill scene.
