A Bitcoin (BTC) whale that had been dormant for six years suddenly reappeared and transferred the equivalent of approximately $82.3 million in BTC to two new wallet addresses. Data shows that Bitcoin whales originally acquired BTC on May 7, 2016, at a price of $459 per coin.

The Awakening of Dormant Bitcoin Wallet Addresses

Blockchain security firm PackShield reports that a Bitcoin wallet address that has been dormant for six years transferred approximately 2,995 BTC (worth approximately $82.3 million) to two new wallet addresses. This unexpected awakening of this wallet address is not the first time. Recently, another Bitcoin wallet address that had been idle for three years had 5,000 BTC (worth approximately $140 million) transferred to three different wallet addresses.

Additionally, in August, a Bitcoin wallet address believed to belong to Bitcoin’s mysterious creator Satoshi Nakamoto became active after being dormant for about 13 years. It transferred approximately 1,005 Bitcoins (worth approximately $29.7 million) to a new wallet address. The age of this particular address has sparked speculation about its connection to Satoshi Nakamoto.

Similar wallet address activity was observed in September last year and January this year. After a long period of inactivity, they were transferred to new wallet addresses worth $56.3 million (2,100 BTC) and $252.5 million (15,000 BTC) respectively.

BTC, the largest cryptocurrency, has been trading between a bottom around $25,000 and a top around $28,500 over the past month. This trading range is an important indicator of the historically low volatility of Bitcoin prices.
