I recently looked into IONS.
In early September it was still close to $60; now it’s down to around $44.
This drop was severe, and the trigger was very clear.
Ionis and Novartis’ phase 3 clinical trial of pelacarsen did not meet the primary endpoint.
This medicine is for Lp(a). Simply put, the higher the Lp(a), the more closely you should watch for cardiovascular disease risk. Pelacarsen does indeed lower this marker, but what really matters is: after it goes down, do patients see a clear reduction in heart attacks, strokes, and cardiovascular deaths?
The results did not meet expectations.
And this is not a small-scale trial. It involved more than 8,300 patients and lasted about 6 years.
