📌 Despite losing $112 million, Tesla still retains all Bitcoin ownership

I’ve seen this kind of plot a few times before. Back then, MicroStrategy also kept buying as prices fell. Grayscale trusts were once trapped in a large batch of losses early on, but they all made it through in the end. This time, Tesla has an on-paper loss of $112 million but hasn’t moved. In plain terms, big institutions still have confidence in the long-term logic and don’t plan to cut losses at low levels.

Now $BTC is around 65,751, and over the past 24 hours it’s only slightly down 0.2%. Overall, it’s still in a range-bound, consolidating pattern. Tesla’s move effectively sends a signal to the market: large funds are willing to hold through unrealized losses, so near-term selling pressure may not be that heavy. But keep in mind that Tesla’s cost basis is roughly around $30,000. There is still a fair amount of profit at their current position. If one day they decide to realize gains to raise cash flow for the auto business, it could turn into a negative catalyst.

Compare other big holders. For example, MicroStrategy has a higher cost basis, but they’ve kept issuing debt to add more—its strategy is more aggressive than Tesla’s. Tesla’s passive holding approach is more like “for now, we don’t want to deal with it,” rather than a firm, bullish stance. So this news is slightly neutral in the short term—don’t treat it as some kind of instant confidence booster.
