As a newcomer entering the cryptocurrency market, the distinctions between spot leverage and contract trading can often be confusing. In fact, there are 5 core differences; understand them before operating to avoid being harvested by high leverage!
1. Asset ownership: whether or not you hold real cryptocurrency
Spot leverage means 'borrowing money to buy coins'; fundamentally, it is still spot trading, and you will actually hold the cryptocurrency you purchase, with ownership of the assets belonging to you. In contrast, contract trading does not involve the actual transfer of assets; you are trading an agreement regarding the future price of the cryptocurrency, without holding real coins throughout the process, only profiting or losing on price fluctuations.
