« Affected accounts will be closed with effect from 31 December 2026. »

A Binance spokesperson told CoinDesk on 7 November. Not a rumor.

Why: MiCA, the European regulation on crypto-assets, requires a license to serve customers in the Union. The transition period ended this summer. Binance did not obtain that license in time. In France, the AMF registration in place since May 2022 automatically expired on 2 July.

France is confirmed. Users in Spain, Italy, and Poland say they received the same email. Deposits are already blocked. Withdrawals remain open, in crypto and in euros — $BNB , $USDC or the rest. The spokesperson insists: no sudden freeze.

31 December is not the date that really matters.

29 November is the “calculation day,” according to the email sent to customers. Any balance still there will be charged each month: 0.025% of the balance, or 10 USDC, whichever is higher. The first charge will be deducted within three days, the second after 24 December. Fees will be taken from USDC first, then from the rest. If the balance is smaller than the fees, everything will be taken.

On 1,000 USDC, the 10 USDC minimum outweighs the percentage: 20 USDC across the two charges.

After 31 December, an account that still has funds in it may be treated as inactive: conversion or transfer may be possible, according to the email.

This is not bankruptcy, a hack, or Binance shutting down across Europe. If you received this email and still have funds there, the fee-free window closes on 29 November.

Have you checked whether your account is affected, or are you leaving it for later?
