Trump: 401(k)s soaring to the moon is a historic record, while the steep plunge was caused by Democrats
On November 6, amid sharp swings in U.S. stocks following the midterm elections, President Donald Trump posted two contrasting messages on Truth Social. At noon local time on November 4, he said the stock market had hit another all-time high, setting records on 91 trading days in a short period, and wrote, “Your 401(k)s are through the roof, all records.” About a day later, on the evening of November 5, as the Dow fell about 3.44%, the S&P 500 dropped about 4.36%, and the Nasdaq sank about 5.52%, he posted that “the stock market just had one of the worst trading days in history because of the election results” and “your 401(k)s took a hit,” then stressed, “It’s not the Republicans, it’s the stupid Democrats (Dumocrats).” He also urged people not to panic, saying things would “somehow become stronger than ever before.” In another post that evening, he said, “The stock market crashed today because of the Democrats’ big win on Tuesday… You can only blame yourselves.”
